I have been in the cosmetic packaging industry for a while, and I have a little knowledge of cosmetics in all aspects. There are many categories of cosmetics, but I can only remember a dozen of them: lipstick tubes, liquid foundation, cream bottles… There is no way. There are so many categories that it is dizzying. After all, I am a member of the Straight Men Committee, so it is understandable that I can’t remember them.
Although I can’t remember many cosmetics, I am still very confident about the packaging materials: the most common inner packaging materials are plastic, glass, metal, and ceramic. Among them, plastic is the most commonly used raw material in cosmetic packaging. It has many resource sources and is affordable. The commonly used plastics in cosmetic packaging are ABS, PP, PMMA (acrylic), PC, PCTG, PS, etc. This article will briefly describe the characteristics of ABS materials:
Chinese name: ABS plastic
Chemical name: Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Plastic
English name: Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene
It is a member of the styrene plastic material. It is made by blending 3 industrial compounds: 25% acrylonitrile (A), 20% polybutadiene rubber (B) and 55% styrene (S). ABS made with such a blending ratio can achieve a perfect balance between hardness and firmness. It is generally opaque, light ivory in appearance, non-toxic, odorless, and has the characteristics of toughness, hardness, and rigidity. In general, ABS has better physical properties and commercial value than general metal, wood or similar plastic materials in any aspect, and is one of the most widely used design materials.

ABS material characteristics
High precision, hard and scratch-resistant, perfect firmness, can be made into various colors, perfect durability (no deformation), good low temperature resistance, a variety of processing methods, recyclable and reusable
ABS material cost
ABS will be affected by the crude oil market, between 15,580 yuan/ton and 17,000 yuan, with a slight increase
ABS processing method
ABS can be made by the general mainstream plastic processing methods, such as injection molding, extrusion molding, blow molding, foam molding, etc., and during the molding period, it can maintain a good structural stability without any breakage or unplanned bending, which is why it can maintain such good precision. It has excellent impact resistance, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, chemical resistance and electrical properties. It is also easy to process, stable product size, good surface gloss, etc. It is easy to paint and color, and can also be subjected to secondary processing such as surface metallization, electroplating, welding, hot pressing and bonding. It is a very reassuring material.
Application in cosmetic packaging
In cosmetic packaging, there are many applications, such as the outer cap of the plastic bottle, the shoulder cover of the plastic bottle, the outer shell of the lipstick tube, etc. are all made of ABS
ABS is a renewable material, but it should be noted that because it is an oil-based material, it cannot be a sustainable material no matter how renewable it is. However, scientists today are studying how to achieve a new type of green ABS through rubber compounding to make it sustainable
