Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of PP plastic bottles

During this period, I have been introducing some articles about PET plastic bottles, but I have neglected to introduce PP plastic bottles, which have been compared with PET in the market due to many similar characteristics. Generally, 0.1%-0.4% sorbitol xylene nucleating agent is added to PP plastic bottles, and high-transparency PP plastic bottles can be produced through blowing, blowing, injection, kneading and other methods. PP plastic bottles have good heat resistance, flexible bottle shape design, safety, hygiene and taste retention of contents. They are cheaper than PET, PS, PE and other materials. Although PET plastic bottles are not the mainstream choice for cosmetic packaging, with the continuous development of modified resins, permeability enhancers and mechanical equipment technology, PP containers can replace glass, PET and PVC containers, and have broad market prospects. The application scale of PP plastic bottles in the cosmetic packaging market has gradually approached PET bottles.

Basic information of PP plastics

Applications of polypropylene (PP): microwave tableware, basins, plastic buckets, thermos shells, woven bags, etc.
Features: high chemical stability, good hygienic performance, and high heat resistance. Plastic products marked with PP can be used for microwave tableware.
Toxicity: non-toxic and harmless to the human body.
The polymer can have three stereoscopic structures: isotactic, syndiotactic, and atactic polypropylene. The former two can crystallize, but the latter cannot. The commercially available polypropylene products are basically isotactic structures, with a melting point of 164~170 degrees Celsius, a density of 0.935 g/cm3 for the crystalline part, and 0.851 g/cm3 for the non-clean part.
The biggest disadvantage of PP is that it is easy to oxidize and age. Now it is overcome by adding antioxidants and ultraviolet light absorbers.

What are the advantages of PP plastic bottles?

Although so far, no better or better packaging materials have been found to replace PET plastic bottles. However, PP bottles are mainly molded in one-step injection stretch blow molding and two-step heating stretch blow molding machines. PP bottles have the advantages of transparency, robustness, and heat resistance. The price is also lower than other plastics. They can be hot-filled at 100°C, while the filling temperature of ordinary PET bottles cannot be higher than 76°C, the glass transition. PP’s water barrier function is about 5 times that of PET, and the price of PP preform production equipment is lower than that of PET preform production equipment. PP bottles have a longer recycling time than PET bottles.
